Are Leatherman pocket knives good quality?

Are there dodgy fakes around & where is the best place to puchase?

Gift for my son under $150.

Cheers
Angela

Thanks for the link marksman, they are fairly pricey, my budget is at the lower end.
Sounds like they will last for years, so a good practical gift

I have had a Leatherman Sidekick for many, many years, and yes they are great and have a lifetime guarantee. One of the springs that keep the unit shut broke and so I had just put it aside for a couple of years until I saw the lifetime guarantee, so sent it off to them and they replied did I want it repaired or replaced. I said I didn't care and ended up with a brand new replacement.

Im on my 4th they have a lifetime warranty
The first one wore out sent it back to get tightened up
They gave me a new one
Broke that one about 6 months in
Got another one
Same with the other couple they got
Replace as the model had changed
Damn good value if you get a real Leatherman

Definitely worth buying a leatherman , they make them well and to last ,unlike most of the copies ive seen. I broke a screw driver bit on one of the 3 i own and it was replaced hassle free with a brand new model . Their warranty is for life and they honour it 100%.

You should get a Wave for your price range .
Check on ebay , make sure its a decent seller.
Warranty doesn't need a receipt, just take to a registered dealer.

Thanks everyone, had a look in a couple of places locally this morning, none available, out of stock or have to be ordered. Will go to BCF tomorrow. Prefer to walk into a shop than buy online but may have to do that.

His birthday is next week & he made an announcement couple of months ago he wanted to spend his 21st at Ayers Rock. Took off Saturday & arrived in Alice Springs today.
Will be non-stop, the advantage of being so young, going to Kings Canyon & couple of days at the Rock then the 3 day trip back home. His girlfriend is with him, great adventure for both of them.

He is an adventurous kid, has been working since end of year 11, chain sawing trees under high voltage power lines throughout the bush nth & central qld for a company who sub contracts to Energex. Its' hot, dirty & hard work with great pay, so proud he's stuck to it & started out with his Uncle & Father, 3 weeks on, back home for 1.

Tight with his money, but the "life" experience he has gotten with working with older men beats anything I think. Some of his workmates have made good money but spent it on drinking, drugs & gambling & are in their 50's with nothing to show for it.

As his mother I'm pleased he's an outdoor kid, has a job & was willing to go bush & work hard.
