Anyone know if lay flat hose can be set up to siphon or does it just collapse?

Your better off with a purpose built suction hose with the ribbing because even rigid hose can suck in if there's a restriction at the strainer.

Hey there sluice_goose,

Have been wondering for a while if a lot of the fine gold would get trapped in the ribbing of the hose and act like a sluice? and trying to recover all the trapped gold in the hose be a mission?

Cheers,

Ross

Can it be set up to use as a suction hose - yes. Not ideal, but it can be done if you insert a smaller diameter non-collapsable hose inside it for the full lenght.
You could use this method of you didn't have hose fittings for solid hose. The inserted hose would stop the layflat from collapsing, it'd work, but it's not ideal.

Just wondering what everyone is paying for layflat , I just purchased 30 metres of 1" ( 25 mm ) what I consider good quality for $117 .00 posted included . . It was via ebay but arrived in 6 days as described from Korea. Im super happy with the speed and quality. Any one that is after some please pm me for the seller's details.

Thanks Gaz
Ill post a pic shortly

Usually about $1.50- $2.50 meter mate depending on quality. Did you get cam locks fitted?

I get from midland irrigation or ebay

No camlocks .. so I paid about 4 bucks a metre . Sounds expensive :( .. but by miles cheaper than anything else I could find by searching the net including Ebay.

I have just purchased a bilge pump with a 40 mm outlet , looking at hose , and on eBay is a 38 mm canvas hose 20 metres for $69,
is canvas any good for a 3500 gph bilge to a 250x 1200 sluice or is the blue pvc a better option ?

Cheers in advance

Lay flat isnt great for a bilge pump at all mate. Layflat needs quite a bit of pressure to build up and bilgs pumps juat dont have pressure. Go for an air seeder hose pvc if you can. They offer the best/lowest pressure loss. Layflat is convenient thought.

Remember a bilge pump loses volume with ever foot of lift

Thanks Golddigg , trap for young players then, wanted lay flat as in a caravan and convenience is a factor.
Was also looking at 40mm waste water hose from the van as a dual purpose for both uses but not sure it would hold pressure or be durable enough for what I want , guess that only leaves a standard type 40 mm garden type hose unless you have a better option , looking into air seeder now

Cheers

Like to get my camlock fittings seperate from hose for makeups. (yes Golddigg, I like the navy blue 116 psi, red is around 230 psi rated from memory)

Found a fantastic online irrigation store up at Albury/Wodonga way with huge range, good prices and superfast delivery to your door.

All the type connections: A to F - DC and DP.

Polypropylene, Nyglass, Aluminium, Stainless etc

i bought the Hd(red) in 1.5" just before xmas to try cause the blue punctures easy...it DOESNT fit over camlock fittings and has no stretch even in hot water!
