Keeping the Kids Keen

Hi all, i am a lapsed geologist new to the forum.

Im based in Brissie and have kids who love getting amongst the dirt looking for gems. Personally I love fossils more than anything and spent my youth digging up petrified wood at Taroom.

We are haeding to the Granite Belt for a week and was wondering where is worth a crack? I hear swipers gully is a waste of time. Is there any where else. The kids are not picky- a basic quartz crystal would keep them happy. So any suggestions?
