Hi all, just doing as the heading suggests and introducing myself, i live out tarneit/hoppers crossing way fairly new to this but have been researching for quite a long time as my ancestors are all from the bendigo newstead area and were amongst some of the early miners in that area, so the history interests me as much as finding the yellow stuff. i just purchased my first detector gpx5000 after much saving and research and i also have a a highbanker. so far i have found this site has some great information and interesting topics, thanks for adding me to your group, i'm always up for a trip out to the golden triangle and happy for anyone to tag along, im looking forward to using the high banker soon, just waiting for a bit of water in the creeks. cheers for now.

good on you jafnob! it won't be long before ya doin' it like a veteran..there must be a hell of a lot of guys around your area from the forum...you'll be right...and good luck....reefer

Thanks for making a bloke feel welcome, yes I've traced my great great great grandfather to a cemetery in Newstead and also found information on him from a local newspaper from up that way when he was involved as a witness in a murder trial while working on the diggings so that was a spinout, and yes I have got the tools now just trying to rack up the experience points and I'm just all ears for anyone who wants to give me advice, I bought the best tools I could afford so I would have no excuses or reasons for not doing any good from that department, so now it's all just trial and error and research from hear on in, thanks all once again. If anyone can recommend a good tour or training course I could do to help me speed up the process that would be great too

I can highly recommend getting out on a training day (fridays or saturdays) with Coiltek Gold Centre in Maryborough (Vic) Jafnob. Very reasonably priced with or without your own detector. I did it twice, good solid imfo on how to run the 5000 and what and where to look for gold when out in the field.
