Hello to all from British Columbia Canada.

I do a bit of mining in the goldfields of the Cariboo. Right now that is a bit hard to do all my claims are under a lot of snow. I am medically retired from flying and waiting for a back surgery so that I can get more mobile. I like prospecting and detecting, I use a GPX 5000 which I really like. Detecting here has it challenges, thick timber and undergrowth. I hope to get to Australia one of these winters and do some prospecting.

My interests also include a love of the outdoors, hunting, target shooting, fishing and exploring. I do enjoy a good camp, a warm fire, good company and a drink now and again.

Best Wishes to All,
John :)

G'day John and welcome aboard. I am looking forward to hearing about how you guys go about things in Canada. I have been to Canada and I think people there are very similar to Aussies. If you come down for a swing with your GPX you will fit right in. :)
PS. Say Hi to Darcy Cooper if you bump in to him. I love his videos.

G'day Johnny!!

Funnily enough, I wanna get over there for a scratch, just as much as you wanna come over here :D
Take it easy brother.

Welcome to the forum John. By the sounds of your activities you would fit in very well with us Ozzies as we have much in common. Hope your back surgery goes extremely well for you and doesn't keep from your claim for too long.

If you make it over this way, make sure you bring the 5000 with you as the detecting can be rewarding if your in the right areas,...especially in Western Australia.

I'm sure you will find some of the forum threads an interesting read, and look forward to hearing of your adventures from the BC region. All the very best of luck,

Cheers Wal.

A very big welcome aboard John, the international connections are certainly starting to grow. Look forward to seeing some Canadian gold

Cheers

welcome to the room John

If you think you might come down this way , just do some reading on our snake and spider species , catch a few dozen youtube videos on prospecting here and that will give you a good head start

western australia is a tough place to prospect but there is probably more ( and bigger) gold there , you would do that from June to september , our summertime there is too tough for most human beings.
You also would need to become familiar with online maps that show existing claims so you dont get arrested for straying on to the wrong places

wet prospecting in eastern states of the country can be done all year around although on occasion we do get scorching hot days up to records figures of 45 - 47 celcius which in the past has seen birds dropping dead out of the trees so thats when you sit inside with the AC running and do some study.

detecting on the east coast can yield results but its a hard slog for sometimes very small nuggets and alot of the land is privately owned and trespassing is forbidden , but on rare occasions you will hear of nice big nuggets , i think 95 % of people doing this never recoup their fuel money but its a nice outdoors hobby if you keep safe.

good luck :)

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure coming to Australia would be a rewarding experience even if you found little or no au.
nothing worse than a crook back, hope it all goes well for you and a speedy recovery.
