The control box cover on my 5000 has a little pouch that I store all the trash items as I detect. I empty it out each time I have found a bit of gold - gives me an idea of the trash to gold ratio. If it doesn't fit it doesn't come with me, usually goes into a tree stump or similar. Nearly every one of the pictured items involved the use of the pick and then pinpoint and then hand to hand sorting to isolate the target. Based on the number of trips I have done I would say around 20 hours of detecting is in this pile.

Dunno what 'normal' trash to gold ratio is but I'm currently not real happy with mine!

Hey Ben,
Look on the positive side .... At least you seem to be in an area that others may not have detected, either that or they just return their found rubbish to where they found it.
And always interesting to see what the "trash to treasure" ratio really is.
Thanks for sharing,
Tom

The good thing about junk areas is many PI swingers just stay away from them. Usually if you systematically filter through them with the aid of a very strong rare earth magnet, rewards can be quite surprising.

Most of us work the fringes and the junk ratio seem to be a bit more bearable. Keep at it mate.

Cheers Wal.

Bugger at least the detector is working, shame the ratio isnt around the other way! :)
