Just spent 8 days detecting in inglewood for zilch, surprised at how flogged the ground is, solid plants flattened all for the hunger of the yellow. Not having a 4wd some roads were impassible, huge water ruts cutting along the road, so no go for me, but possibly that`s were some of the gold still is, only accessible to 4wd`s?
Did manage to find a 2 grammer with my trusty old SD2200D in the side of a creek bed, a tree root was sticking out about 4 to 5 inches, i managed to get a clear signal, must of been upwards of 30 coils passed over it, broke the root ,definite signal in the wash layer, was 99% sure was gold , thought for a sec ,maybe some mug shot a bullet, but was rewarded with gold, glorious gold. This was found in a surrounding town, will continue a bit later ,out of time now.....

I've not prospected there but a mate worked a good patch there over 2 weekends. Did not say where, and I didn't ask him.
I've found some nice pieces at Kingower - not far from there. Not good roads in winter, but mostly OK at this time of year in a 2wd (except the Potato Patch).
Silver: Not too specific, but more so than "North of Tasmania and South of the Equator ;)

Bigwave, yeah kingower was the place, no hand of faith for me, maybe little toenail of scorn?
Anyways, continuing on, one day i dug 3; 2 foot holes, the first was a large bolt, the second was a cable ,stuffed if i know how it got there? and the 3rd a rather large horse shoe, to say i was stuffed that day was an understatement as my lung condition bared it`s teeth and my feet were beginning to swell. Feeling very tired every night but also that feeling of peace a man can only feel after a days hard yakka topped of with a beer more than made up for the times i felt quite crook.
Yet again i did what i said i would`nt do, i gave up on at least 2 targets, i dug about a foot down, being stuffed i just gave up, even now i cant believe i did, thinking back these targets had a high probability of being 3 onzs plus nuggets considering where these targets were situated. I spent hundreds of hours researching before this trip, specifically on where to look, so i know these targets have a high prob of being yellow.
My brother tagged along, he`s a little down mentally, he hired the sdc for nearly two weeks and did`nt find a single piece of yellow, but found alot of bullets and junk like i did, i could tell he did`nt have the patience digging tiny targets and i believe he gave up on a few small bits of yellow. I think that`s the last time he will ever detect again, as i know he has a lazy streak inside of him as well as the disability.
I tried the sdc for about 5 minutes and i did`nt like it one bit, it was suprisingly heavy and i did not like the tone at all, sd2200d all the way for me!!

I`m planning to come down again within the next month or two for a week as 2 weeks is too long to be away from my beautiful dogs, i missed them so much as they did me. I will return to dig these targets up that i gave up on, unless some mug gets my spoils, it seems to work that way for some people, just read up on the old stories of diggers giving up, then someone else takes over and strikes it big, i hope this is not the case for me.

Regarding the SD2200D, i believe i might have given up on a rich pocket of gold amongst some old diggings, as i got this really strange signal, it was really wide perhaps spread over 2 feet, it was different to ground noise, and i made the mistake of not taking 6 inches of soil off the top, but walked away from it. The gravel /gold layer was 3 to 4 feet down judging by the depth of the old timers holes around me. Has anybody experienced this with the sd2200d? and what was the result?

Hey ironrock
Were you staying in the caravan and annexe which can be hired at Inglewood caravan park?
I heard from the owners there was 2 guys staying there that were detecting. I was up their last weekend and stayed in a cabin. I didn't get a chance to say g'day as I was pretty much on the go day and night. There is still gold around Inglewood but like anywhere is hard to find. I have found a little. I may be the guy BigWave was referring to. Cheers Dignit

Yeah dig`n it , was in the green van closest to the scrub. The owners pauline and jerry are quite new, not sure they understood what they got them selves into, ie not much gold left, business declining? they seemed like decent people and i hope everything pans out for them. Jerry even wanted to buy my nugget to have something to show, but i could`nt sell it as it was the only one i found.

Yep, that's the van. Sorry I didn't get to say g'day. Was up early and out late each day as I was meeting other PA members. We detected around Kingower, Dunolly, Rheola, Inglewood and Talbot on the way home to Melbourne. You may have seen the post. Very little gold found. Across half a dozen of us I don't think there was any more than a total of 2g found. It's hard work where ever you go.
Yeah Pauline and Jerry are real nice.
You're doing well to find a 2 grammar. I haven't got over 0.94g myself.
May see you there another time.
Cheers

Hi guys we have spent 17 days detecting all over Inglewood this year, plus 3 weeks last year and I am still a virgin in Inglewood. Mrs. vixen found two tiny bits (.14&.06gr) last trip and don,t I know it. The c/van park is great though and the new owners are really nice, welcome Pauline & Jerry. In fairness I spend a lot of time detecting elsewhere as I like to be able to see the ground occasionally, it sure is angry bush. We will be back up there again soon so maybe can catch up with some of you I'm the bloke with the hairy dog. See ya jim&robyn

G`day Reynard, yeah the gold pretty thin around inglewood, i reckon the only places left that hold good gold around inglewood are the 'plant reserve' grounds, which by the way are very thick and probably 'no prospecting allowed'. Can somebody confirm this? And also kingower north, i know its a reserve but is detecting allowed?

Reynard - that dog wouldn't be Carbine would it?

Nice to have caught up with you guys again. Hopefully your next trip will be more golden. I'll try to get back down from Canberra but it won't be until Sept/Oct at the earliest. Off to the NT late next week to have a go there.

Sure is was great to catch up dan. At least the vixen found some. Hope you have a productive trip, keep us all informed. Jim

Thanks Jim. My congrats to Robyn (I couldn't call her a vixen!!). We will not have comms reception (I think/hope) but will post some pics, if worthwhile, when I can. Might be sunsets only!!??

davent - we have permissions on land/EL near Alice. Looks good on a map but we'll see when we get there. :)
