Is there a protocol if you find bullets etc?

Hey guys,

I found a .357 magnum bullet and a .308 rifle round both live.

Should I be reporting these or handing them over to the rozzers?

Or should I just carefully place them in my " that's weird!" showcase?

I would be ringing the Rozzers to find out what they want you to do with them.
As far as I understand, it is am offence to have ammunition if you are not licenced to own a forearm.

I think the laws are the same for most states but check anyways, if you find live rounds then you should drop them off at the local cop shop if you dont hold a gun licence, mainly its to prevent injury from deteriorated ammunition. If there just spent bullets that youve dug up then you can keep it.
I do know that if you find ammunition of any sort that you suspect to be live then your suppposed to leave it be and call the cops, reason for this is that there are crims out there as well as some hillbilly types that still bury weapons and ammo. There are also some areas around the place that were used in ww2 for practice ranges, these areas can still contain live rounds that misfired or were used for testing and have been buried.

Answering the "etc" bit if you do find anything larger than small ammo don't touch it even if it looks fired and let the cops know the location. The explosive in unexploded ordnance may become quite unstable and volatile with age and blow bits of you all over the place.

Drop them in at the cop station or a gun shop Clegy, they will probably charge you for having ammo if you keep them and they find out. Pretty stupid rules but that's the way it works.

Hopefully it's the vital clue in an unsolved case that's paying a monster reward.
