1 Don't do it alone.
2 Always prepare the vehicle with provisions and safety equipment.

This, IIRC, is very close to well 22 which was the nearest well (9km's ??) where two blokes were found dead next to their vehicle . Under it actually (AFAIK the vehicle is still there). That pair went looking for water, didn't split, and walked in the wrong direction away from the well and water. So no water and returned to the vehicle and died.

Perhaps that thought was on their mind when they got stuck. Hence why they left the vehicle and split
