Didnt our stupid government give a few million a few years ago to keep the holden brand going or have i confused that with ford or something ?

Holden died a few years ago, its just been on life support , not much will change they might have a camaro badge now.

Sad days indeed.

It's a tough market out there.
I gasp sometime when I'm flicking through the second hand car sales.
Top of the range European cars only 5 to 10 years old going for peanuts with low k's.
When factory worker in mexico or Thailand get paid peanuts to make cars, what hope have our factories/manufacturing got.
With our living standards we just cannot compete?
Holden have gone the way of hundreds of other Australian products.
RIP HOLDEN

They should never of sent that money over to the US, They got a Loan and sent it over seas, How is that going to save the company,

The trouble with most car companies is they are all part owners of each other and that makes it impossible to be brand loyal,

Holden have bought this on them selves by giving away the money GOV gave them to the US,

UK's Vauxhalls are mainly GM Opel / Suzuki,

RIP Holden.

Agree with Gold trapper....
millions and millions of our money, to keep OUR business Holden, afloat... OUR blokes in a job...
And they apparently make a cursory call from GM International, to the Government, minutes before the announcement, that we are shutting down Oz and NZ op's...

WORD.. disgraceful.

Manufacturing entire items in this Country is Dead. Government needs to do a Trump. All items brought into the country need to contain 10% locally manufactured parts. Even if it is only the plastic fan blades of a fan. 10% of everything soon adds up into a lot of factory jobs. Might add a few bucks onto an item, at least we have local jobs

If I remember rightly, the government gave them millions twice and still it went under.
I paid $250 for EK and before that I was offered an FJ for $90 which , at that time i couldnt afford.
Been driving Holden ever since. Currently aCommodore International. Best one I have had.
Sad really but thats Australian manufacturing for ya.

Not sure how many ( local manufactures ) are owned by international entities but i'm guessing a lot.

Great for local jobs but also thinking a milk contract lost out recently in qld, another true locally owned company is disputing why another locally produced company but foreign owned was in favour of the government ?

I don't think we produce enough population in Australia to please the government pocket.

Holden motor's own Mazda's and a couple of others at Coffs harbour

So I wonder what will become of them...

Goody

:poop: hit the fan a bit about the milk company ,they were canned on the grounds of a supply issue, but the local mob could supply more milk than the mob that got the tender and about a week after they got the tender they put staff off , there's more to it than what meets the eye
