Gday all , my name is darren , im from Newcastle NSW, currently on holidays with my son at Tweed Heads . Ive always had a curious interest in detecting ..... keen to introduce and encourage my son to be inspired(and provide a together time activity)i bought an Ace 250 ,today locally on ebay. I then found this site, found a forum that mentioned the Ace250, read some posts by Nugget(Muswellbrook, close to home)and have since read all of Goldpicks stories and related replies. Very inspiring ... Very motivating ... Im keen as hell to get out there!

Welcome Darren, you should find lots of good information and knowledgeable people here to help you. Tell your son that you are looking for buried treasure and need a hand that usually works. :)

Gday and thanks Noncents & Duck
The following has been written over a few days.....
And my typing skills suck to say the least..

Ive read the booklet and watched the instructional videos . Thats where my concerns start ... As mentioned i bought the detector(Ace250) off ebay , listed as new never used , came in the box , with a sand scoop/sieve for $280. I looked at the base of the coil , no scratches or anything at all to suggest it has ever been used, all seems good .
When i got home this evening i eagerly assembled it, followed Goldpick's "falsing fix" while putting it together(as i had already read as much as i could find relating to this machine) turned it on to check it out and noticed that the discrimination bars and the battery charge indicator bars are not showing. I thought maybe the batteries( came with it) were low , so bought and installed new batteries but this didnt make any difference.
I contacted Garrett Aust. the next day , explained the situation(hoping for an answer with a good result.... Uh no... thats not what i wanted to hear) I rang the seller, explained my grievance, and got my money back. Well, at least its an ebay story that ends on a good note .
I have since been reading the rest of Goldpick's posts and following the SA boys posts on beach hunting plus everyone else's replies and comments . I think its great that each inspires the others. Im certainly inspired ... When i get back home im gonna go see Bob and Judy at Greta(Goanna gold detectors) and get myself something to start off on.
Having read Goldpick's entries , i think the Ace250 is still a great entry level choice. Ive got plenty of high n dry beach targets in mind , and probably even more likely playground and parks to scour.
So i hope to be able to be posting my own little stories of "treasures uncovered" in the near future.
Cheers to all
Darren

Welcome Sandta, I'm glad I've encouraged you to get out there and have a go. Don't need an expensive detector to start off with, sure more expensive detectors make life a bit easier with better performance etc, but a lot of fun can still be had with the Ace, works great cherry picking coins on dry sand. If you do get one, also look at getting the sniper coil, as it gives better target separation in trashy areas, and allows you to get hard up against play equipment in tot lots.

Pity about the ebay experience, but at least you were covered and it all worked out in the end, do the same on gumtree, and you would be left high and dry.

I bought my Ace for around $250 on ebay, came in the original box with original receipts, control box cover, and the large DD coil, so that was a good pick up. :)

Hi Sandta, good the seller gave you a refund. I bought an ace 350 and then the m/l 305 of members of the AMDRH forum, no probs.
best way to go if buying a used machine. otherwise, face to face, get a demo of the unit, is the way to go. go well. :)
