Hi hilux
being flat
it is more than likely what they call a decorative finial
searching finials will only get the curtain rod ends and what not
most decorative finials are pressed from dies ,and used as you said a bit of bling for anything (chests ,books ,metal art )
i have put a couple of pages of decorative finials so you can get a bit of a idea of the sizes, as you would more than not find what you are looking for
That's really cool SS. I didn't know finials could be flat. I just though of them as curtain rod ends!

Thanks for going to the effort of the examples.

Now I can go do some more looking.

Cheers

that one of yours is not in the booklet
that booklet is about 30 years old
the company that makes them are still going as far as i know (bendigo) they are made from tin sheet now, no brass ones too expensive
when that booklet was released there's a lot missing from previous booklets as demand had wavered

Two florins in the same hole today. About 9" apart.

They really sung out well on the Manticore @ about 98 VDI after nothing but ring pulls and pull tabs for the last half an hour.

Always pays to check the hole!

I'd hope that much silver sounded a lot better than a ring pull?
That's a very nice find indeed! The New Year's looking good for you already.

More finds today.

1944 threepence and a 1948 roo penny.

Also got a brass metal button, I haven't found one like this before. It's two thin pieces stamped together with the outer edge rolled over. No text on it.

Not a single ring pull or tab dug today. Got a few aluminium cans and parts of cans though. Still learning how to avoid digging them.

Anyone with some military knowledge here?

I found this badge today. The colours only show up when its wet. Its about 20mm or 3/4" diameter.

It has a pin on the back, no writing is visible.

Found near an old WW2 convalescence camp in urban Perth.

The only thing I've been able to find is vague reference to it being a WW2 Army artillery badge.

Hi again. I have to come clean. I have little military knowledge. I just use Google Images. I just save an image then I paste or upload it on the Google Images icon on the right of the search box. Left click on the icon then you can do what you prefer. It is all too easy and very useful. I even used it to try and find a replacement for my best wearing socks ever. I took a pic of the weave and stuck that in Google Images and voila!! Found where to get my socks Have fun!. Cheers, Dave.
