I'm at at hill end at the moment and have hired a sdc2300 for the weekend to have a bit of a crack before I buy 1. Can anyone tell me somewhere beside the prospecting area that I know has just been blasted. Any hints on where to get colour would be appreciated.

DJ,

Interesting, Hill End is NPWS land, which prospecting area was blasted and by whom? When did this happen?
Regards
Ian

DJ,
Ok, the terminology is flogged area. Most of Hill End is flogged, but no one gets it all. Biggest problem is rubbish in the ground. Get through the rubbish and you find Au. Got a GPS? No how to use it?

Ian

One of the best weekends I spent at Hill End with a mate of mine was just driving around until we seen somewhere one or both of us thought looked ok & we'd stop for 30-60mins to give it a go. With 2 x SDC's it didn't take long to know if there was going to be a bit of gold around.
Some of the best spots we stopped were some of the most unlikely that obviously others hadn't thought to stop at either, at least with SDC's anyways, & we found a few areas that we picked up a few little bits from right next to main tracks throughout Tambaroora + in the Common areas closer to the village.
I guess what I'm saying is don't be scared to give it a try if you think it looks ok. Some of the "flogged" spots out there still throw up a few bits & are easy to get to + good to learn on. Plenty of targets :D unfortunately not all golden.

The NPWS land out there is only the general Village area, the Golden Arch area, Valentines Mine & the Cornish Roasting Pits.
Outside of that is Hill End Common managed by the Hill End Common Trust but there are a lot of private lots in amongst it too + some active & inactive Mining Leases. Pretty easy to navigate around.
NPWS would like to get their hands on the Common but hopefully we never see that happen!!

Went for a drive up that way yesterday, the ground was quite wet and conditions weren't favourable for detecting but I gave it a crack!
No gold but I pulled a few fuggets

mbasko,

Thanks for the clarification on Hill End NPWS involvement / areas and the common trust.

Does the fossicking area 34 west of Tambaroora still exist?

Regards
Ian

Yes & area 72 Golden Gully which is pretty much just an extension of it but back towards the village. Both should be fairly obsolete once the Bathurst LGA is gazetted as a fossicking district though.
