I'm Chris from Melbourne. My father made a few metal detectors out of a couple of electronic magazines back in the 80's. They were very simple but seemed to work ok. As a kid growing up there was nothing better than getting out of the city with the family prospecting. We had a great time and found a lot of bits and pieces but nothing worth much. My kids are at the same stage now and metal detectors look very refined. I'd like to learn about detectors and buy one ASAP before the kids miss out on being kids prospecting with dad. I'm just as excited as they are right now and I'm not quite sure where to start. Cheers and thanks

Welcome aboard Dig, lotsa tectas to choose from, some simple to use, some requiring a little nouse to opperate effectively, but they all beep or whistle when somethings outa sight in the ground and under your coil, it's the detective work or dumb luck that puts the finds in your bag, n the good etiquette n digging practises that keep you in good stead with all concerned along the adventure, I'm sure you won't go wrong and will have lots of fun times getting the kids involved as well ,.... just let em spend the proceeds on the way home once you start finding a few $, that helps to keep em interested in the hunting. ;)
