Hi all, I am reasonably new to this game and busting for the cooler weather to arrive to finally get serious. I am currently running a SDMinelab 2200 V2 and wondering if any of you out there know what settings she runs best at?? Just when I start feeling comfortable with it my brain gets confused with what I am hearing. My first nugget was 4.76 and have 8 other much smaller nuggets. My detector was purchased brand new but due to travel commitments couldn't hang around long enough to get my free lesson. I only get out there occasionally as my partner isn't interested in prospecting so it's usually a day here a day there, I have told him to just leave me out there so I can play in the dirt and get my ear in properly but to date doesn't realise I'm fair dinkum. Hope you all have a fantastic year and who knows might see you out there somewhere.
Have a good one, cheers.

Welcome goldenoldie, buy him something to play with, while you are prospecting, & good luck, although it looks as if you are already on the right track with those finds.

Hi all, I haven't been happy with an odd noise coming from my detector, a prospector friend found a loose wire on my coil lead, can these we soldered back on or do I have to buy a new coil????? My friend says to not frig around with it and just buy a new coil.
I need to get this sorted as my little Bro and I are finally putting the finishing touches to our preparations for a long planned (and hopefully productive) adventure.
Bye the way I love your forum, I am sure there could be some amazing books written about our experiences, happy hunting.

Well here I am back from the trip we had been planning for ages. It was a great 4 days with my bro and his out laws but no yellow stuff. My brother and sister-in-law had a hysterical fight with their air bed as it blew up like those giant pillows kids jump on these day. When one lay down the other flew up and when they let some air out the bed tried to consume them, it was honestly the funniest sight I have seen in a long time. Our dunny was a porta potty with a blue trap on 2 sides and a view to kill for over looking the river. It rained and my tent sprung a leak, my airbed went down slowly and my sleeping bag was wet. My bro and his missus left camp at 8-30 on the first morning, by 1-30 we were out searching for them, finally at 3-30 they staggered out of the bush "not lost" but geographically challenged. Of course he has a GPS but we grew up in the area so he figured he didn't need it, the thing is the camp couldn't be seen from the other bank of the river and they had walked past it 3 times only to have to retrace their steps.
Only a few colours found and finally on day 3 little brother whispered "sis I just realised we are in the wrong spot". Hmmmm well at least that narrows down our target for next time. Next expedition we get serious we don't take extra people that need to get back home, we stay as long as it takes, we could of moved camp and still been out there and who knows what we might of found, who knows. ........ ;)

Gidday Goldenoldie - the 2200 is a great machine. Many old timers like myself have up upgraded but kept the 2200 - it was/is that good and a great DD detector. Simple to use - switch on, wait, ground balance and go.

My suggested settings.

Both channels on
Deep
Discriminator off - unless in really trashy ground (all metal mode)
Fixed - gets better depth.
14" DD coil for patch hunting.

In fixed, it must be re-balanced as soon as it even appears to get noisy. I usually ground balance in tracking then with the coil still, throw the switch.

I have switched to the 7.2 v battery conversion - nice and light, gives an indication of how much juice (red light fades as it draws power)is left and can be fitted to the detector. saves wearing a harness and those god-awful heavy batteries.

You may want to look at an audio booster as the sound was not the greatest with the 2200. I usually use a speaker with my 4500, but the 2200 is a definite for head-phones. If the ground noise or trash is too much, switch to discriminate and tracking - may do the job.

Thanks for that loamer much appreciated. Yep had the battery conversion for a while and it certainly saves the back also had the booster for some time, now have the control box serviced so hi ho here I go. Good luck out there and thanks again.
