Hi guys,

My name is Joe and I am from Melbournes Western Suburbs.

Have been detecting on and off since the mid 90's.

The thing I love about gold prospecting is being out in the bush.

The challenge I love most is doing your research and reaping the rewards.

Used to belong to the BPC in the late 90's and was around when the new Minelab 2000's were first

introduced. I believe I was one of the first to detect the waters in elwood beach in the 90's and have found pennies in the water.

No Longer Owned but have used a whites PI 1000, Sd 2200d, Minelab Sovereign, GTI 1500, Tesoro Dingo, Tesoro Vaquero,
Garrett At Gold and have tested on a hire day the TDI Pro and Minelab 4000.

BTW - Love the forum.

Joe

Welcome joe seems you have been hunting my area for a while my father used to detect elwood beach in the early 70s and ray is still in the BPC i regularly stir them up a bit and have a vaquero as well (dont tell everyone how good they are our secret) hope the forum can be of some help to you would like to hear some stories as well

G'day Joe and welcome, Gold prospecting and being out in the bush go hand in hand alright, and I love both. I even work in the bush. See you've had a wide variety, of machines all good ones to. Would like to hear stories of your adventures and forget the photos.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I think Tesoro are in an excellent position.

I say this because all competitors have shown their cards with new detectors but Tesoro have not.

The next generation of Tesoros need to have discriminators that don't loose depth with a slick iron tone volume with a minimum of 2 tones one for iron the other for silver/gold etc. With the iron volume you can set how much of the iron you want to hear. Add a slick modern case and a couple of more bells and whistles and these machines will be awesome.

What would be awesome is to have a KHZ dial where a detector can run from 10khz to 25. You just set this up.

The best machine for coin hunting in normal soil in my opinion is a Tom D tuned serial 1021 CZ3D. I own 2. I have picked up half cent pieces at 6" and 7" in depth - Amazing machines but can only be found 2nd hand and are hard to find.. I may sell one if I decide to purchase an ATX.

Back in the old days it was simple. Drive to Maryborough park on the side of the road walk 15 metres and start detecting and within 5 minutes you have 3 bits of gold. Its a bit harder now but you need the right gear and you need to understand the machines and coil capabilities.

Last year I purchased 2 machines and they were the AT Gold and Vaquero. One was going to be for coin shooting and the other for gold prospecting. I ended up selling both for a few reasons. As a prospecting machine I will be using a G2 with a 5" nel coil. I have experience using this type of vlf.
You will be surprised the amount of tiny Gold that's left behind or walked over by prospecting. Spend 50 hours in the bush and this small stuff can add up to a fair bit.

The Duck do you know whats happened with Peter? Could you ask Ray please if you can? Peter would be about 60-65 today and was a photographer who lived in Bendigo and was a participating member of the BPC.

Thanks

Joe
