Hi - I live in Coffs and would like to make contact with anyone who prospects in the area on a part time basis and is interested in some company while prospecting.
Absolutely no experience or equipment.
I do enjoy fishing though so maybe there is someone out there who enjoys both.
Almost a senior citizen and still working on a part time basis so I am available some days during the week and alternative weekends.
Look forward to see if any replies.

Can anyone share what sort of prospecting is done in the Coffs area -besides the obvious beach and parks etc. Has anyone had any good finds? I'm not sure if this area has much in the line of minerals although there is an old gold mine which is not far away. Georges gold mine? I'm sure it's on private land.
Maybe stick to fishing!!

Thanks Pete.
Yours was the only reply.
I did not really expect to get replies due to my inexperience etc.so going to give up on this for the time being.

I think I went about my post on the website incorrectly.

Gday moggy and welcome to PA. Theres a couple of us around the area prospecting. There is gold up in the hills behind coffs. Do a goolgle search and you will find a lot of old hard rock mines. Be warned thou ! Most of the old mines are hidden in some thick scrub and hard to see. You wont get rich out there but youll get enough to keep you interested. :Y:

Thanks for the info bluecurrant. Is there a club that u guys belong to or is it a case of individuals who do there own thing?
I assume that people do not share too much regarding where the "spots" are as they do not want everyone in their area.
I'm hoping that there is somebody out there who is also interested in getting started and wants some company.
Cheers. Moggy

There is no club in the area for gold, but im not of face book etc either. I rarely see anyone out there, but then again i cant see ten foot infront of me because of the scrub and terrain. Mate get 10 posts up and send me a message.

Bluecurrant - how often are you out prospecting? Sounds like it is more than a hobby for you?

No its just a hobbie but i still believe there is plenty of reefs unfound. I get out when i can. I used to highbank. but I only pan now. I have a 4wd and a dirt bike. The 4wd is better as you can carry a bit more stuff and if ya tired from digging all day you can cruise home. The bike is better for gaining acess to more areas. I make my own tracks. And you get in and home alot faster. But limited to what you can carry. Plenty of spots most are hard to reach due to the access. I think thats why there is not alot of fossiking down around here. I take a little rod sometimes and spin up bass and mullet aswell.

Bluecurrant - You have shared a lot of useful info here. Sounds like you have fun when you go out there. Like the fishing bit inbetween. How far do you travel on average when you go out and do you work the same area for an extended time? I assume you would.

Bluecurrant - have been watching a lot of prospectors on u tube for Coffs area.
Just want to ask the question - do u generally get flecks/pickers or do you find small nuggets? And do you sluice or just pan?. Look forward to your reply.
By the way, in which area of Coffs do you reside?
I'm in Middle Boambee.
Regards - Moggy

I mostly pan and my mate runs a river sluice. Fingers crossed a walbanker in the not so distant future aswell. I usually chase alluvial gold as this is the easiest to find. Nearly all of this area is reef gold. The biggest nugget was what my mate found panning. It was a 0.5 gram nugget. Im north of you up near woopie. Once ya get ten posts up you can pm me. Your not allowed to send personal info openly on the forum.

Delay in replying cos I did not see your reply. Is this rain good to wash some gold down? But I suppose you have to wait for flows to subside before u chase the gold again and access is more difficult?
What is an achievable average per outing for you? Moggy

O.5 grams must of got him excited! Did he get a bit more gold in the vicinity?
What is the most you have got in a day? Do you reckon you cover your costs? I suppose you camp out on weekends at times.
Trying to work out whether you do it for the excitement or whether you make a bit out of it. Probably both?
Moggy

Anyone else in Coffs area wanting to give prospecting a go?

Ah a super Sluith. :) ... Sluice, I think you mean... Im Ex Coffs.. With well over 65 mines in the area im sure you will find somewhere to have a pan.. Not really a Detector Area, but there has been some finds using one.... Use the Search function as there are a few good threads about Coffs area on PA...

Google 'Georges Gold Mine' Books... Well worth a read... There are 3 different versions...

Access will be an issue after the Fires... All State Forests are Closed till further notice...

If you get your posts up to 10 you then can PM(private message) ;)

And Welcome to PA... :Y:
