Hi there everyone,

New to the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Jonathon and I'm a big fan of prospecting both for gold and stones. Professionally I'm a jeweller so I've always wanted to work with some material that I've recovered myself, I must be using the equipment wrong though because I'm still yet to see any gold, hah.
I mainly look in stream beds with a high banker and pans etc. but am thinking of upgrading to a detector.
I'm hoping to chat with some new people and hopefully learn a thing or two.

Cheers,
Jonathon

Gday Jonathon, welcome to the forum :) Sluicing can be hard work in the creeks, but the color is always where it has been found before. You may have to sample pan and move a bit more. Going onto a metal detector can seem easier, but it is just as a big task finding the gold with a detector as it is a pan and sluice, but sometimes a lot more rewarding.

Good luck with your travels, there are many online this forum that are more than glad to help out anyone, enjoy having a chat to them all :)

Welcome to the forum Jonathon. Envious position to mix business with pleasure, and finding your own gold and gemstones will add that little bit of extra pleasure to your creations.

Of course when you use your own found gold and gems, you probably won't want to sell them as they will hold more sentimental value, and as such parting with them in the shop may be painful.

All the best of luck with it and look forward to seeing some of your creations.

Cheers Wal.

Best of luck with the Hi Banker Jonathon. There isn't much that beats working out where the Gold isn't (and by attrition where it IS!), then just working it.
Wal's HiBanker plan is an awesome peice of kit for Gems if you happen to live somewhere close and can access a decent wash.
