Hi Everyone,

Im a newbie who is interesting in heading out and giving it a go.
I am based in Melbourne so easy access into the Golden Triangle.

Any recommendations on places to start (towns etc), where to hire a decent detector? Any good maps?
Also I will be going with my daughter (11 yrs) and father in law so Im assuming only the 2 adults need a license?

My wife thinks I'm crazy and has said that "all the gold will be gone". :(

Would love some suggestions?

Thanks
Richard

G'day raucough welcome to the forum plenty of info here. Your daughter won't need a miners rite until she turns 18. As far as hiring a detector try Miners Den in Mitcham (depending on your location) an SDC 2300 would be the most simple and is a proven & consistent gold detector. If they don't hire them they'll point you in the right direction I'm sure. Anywhere in the Golden Triangle is good just make sure you don't prospect in a no go zone, check out Parks Victoria website and search under prospecting areas.

You could also look up prospecting clubs in your area and introduce yourself, you'll get good info and meet like minded people and opportunities of field days.

All the best
