Hi mate Welcome

Maybe post your price range and what you like to search for coins or gold
Im sure ul get lost of help from members

Cheers Danmuss. At this stage will only invest a grand or so, being in Tassie will be looking for coins and other bits and bobs.Have thought about the minelab x-terra 705 to start with, then see where we go from there,i have just got back from the Pilbra WA if and when i return, will do a bit of prospecting over there in my spare time.

I use the Garrett AT Gold and its a awesome machine for coin and relic searching, its very advanced in picking out a good target among iron and junk, its also fully waterproof.. I search parks and beaches and if I find some flat water down a beach il get in there and have I swing under water lol its fun on a hot day

I had the x terra 305 before this and it was ok, I know the 705 is a little more advance than the 305 but the AT Gold is defo my choice over the 705 :D

Hi ed,

I'm also in Tassie, near Hobart. I have a Garrett AT Gold, and I really like it. It does annoy me a hell of a lot that Garrett enforce a ridiculous pricing policy on their Australian distribuor, though. In the US you can get the AT Gold significantly cheaper than the X-Terra, and at half the price that it is in Australia.

Welcome to the forum!

Yeh that's true, The Garret products are so much cheaper from America BUT if you buy from America the Warrenty is not valid in Australia with the Australian Garrett suppliers :(. Which is Crap cause it's all made from Garrett in America anyways!!
I bought mines from EBay for $700 and luckyly it's still going strong months later :)

Thanks for input folks taking all info on board.I will need to check both detectors out before i decide on which one to buy.mfdes i am also living near Hobart should be some interesting spots to detect,do i need a licence for surrounding areas.
