My name is Bob, I have just retired with a background in aircraft maintenance with the RAN mainly in choppers and a further 20+ years with Department of Defence(Navy) working on missiles and torpedos. I started detecting in the 1980's with the old red coloured Mine Hunter and with relatives on the gem fields at Rubyvale(Qld) got into sapphires big time.

I now am going back to detecting so the search is on for a good detector and spots close to Sydney.
