The Labrodorite Lone Wolf mentioned is quite nice looking stuff CrazyCowLick. There's a very similar material up here in Central Queensland near Springsure and it facets an attractive stone, if slightly on the soft side. You won't be able to retire on what you find though

There's probably a lapidary club in Lismore, they would be the best people to ask. They may even do fossicking trips.
