So Im new, to both the forum and prospecting in general. Hi!

Just wondering what the deal is with prospecting at Warrandyte, more specifically, Andersons Creek? I've read that only panning is allowed at Andersons Creek. But I've also seen people on this forum sluicing there. So what exactly does "panning" mean? I assumed "panning only" means just that, but apparently it includes sluicing? So where is the line drawn?

I am going to buy my 2 year miners right tomorrow and head out there sometime in a few days. I don't own and equipment myself yet, but will be borrowing some pans and a sluice from a friends dad. Should be interesting.

Any advice you can give a first timer heading out to Warrandyte? I don't expect to find much there but a few colours would be nice. As I am aware, digging is only allowed in the stream bed, not the banks or outside the stream?

Thanks

look at you tube for hunting in creeks and streams.
all ways look under the larger rocks, dig the dirt out and sieve, than pan it. good luck!

Paul

Welcome InteroBusteerio,

I don't know the area, but if you could advise of the resource which states "panning only" it'll help the discussion, there may an additional clause or loophole of some sort.

P.S. Welcome to Paul also :)

Cheers,
Nugget

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

Nugget, I can't recall where I read that. I had a quick look and couldn't find the post I was thinking of, but did find another post that mentions panning only. I did find a mention on another forum but I'll refrain from directing people there.

I can't post links yet, but there is a thread titled "Locations to pan from SE burbs of Melbourne" on this website. See the first sentence of the first reply. "I believe there is an area at warrandyte that is a panning area but no metal detectors are allowed." Not exactly definitive, but it raised a question mark in my mind. I really don't want to break the rules so I would rather get it cleared up, you know.

Thanks

Hi Nugget while we are on this subject, for panning and using a sluice in Sydney do you need any licence or permits for this?

In NSW, a permit is only required when Fossicking in State Forrests. Just remember National Parks are completely off limits.

You can't use detectors in Warrandyte. I use a pan and if there is enough water my river sluice. If you don't know where to pan I am happy to show you. Just PM me when you can and welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I don't know where to pan. I read that there is signs? And orange markers signalling the end of the prospecting area? I was just going to wing it, take a poke around and find where I meant to be. But your offer is very nice and I might just take you up on that sometime next week/weedend. How often do you get out to Warrandyte?

Re the sluice and water flow. Would it be safe to assume good water flow at this time of year?

Thanks again.

I have not been there in last few weeks but I only live 15 minutes away so more than happy to meet you there one weekend for an hour or so to show you where you can pan. Maybe when it's not raining.
