Hi Phil,

Welcome to the forum, I'm a newbie to this forum too, I joined yesterday, I recently bought myself a Digitech metal detector from my local Jaycar Electronics store, it cost me only about Au$140.00, it'll do me for the time being till I can afford to upgrade to something more expensive later on, from what I've read in magazines, this is pretty much what lots of other detectorists have done.

cool i will check it out. i have looked at a few dearer ones and wanted an eazy setup beach detector that is waterproof as ill be in the surf and sand and playgrounds so it seems the way to go and will save me upgradin later on

If you're interested in buying one of those Digitech metal detectors, Jaycar Electronics stock them, the catalogue number is QP-2307, and it says in the user manual that the search coil is waterproof, so it should be good for metal detecting on the beach.

I'm planning on upgrading to a more expensive detector later on if/when I can afford to do so, in the meantime, the Digitech detector should be fine and gets me started.

have you been hunting yet Simon what kind of results did you get from it?

Haven't actually done any hunting with it yet, but going to see if I can do some at Mindil Beach here in Darwin next year, and see what I can find with it, will be interesting to see how well it performs.

good luck mate cant wait for the results might just make me change my mind.
what are you chasing coins or jewellery ?

Basically, anything I can find, even if it does turn out to be bits of rubbish and ring-pulls and etc, if I do end up finding coins, jewellery, or anything of value, that'll be a bonus, but if I don't find anything at least I'll gain some experience anyway, it'll give me a good excuse to get out in the open.

i like that last bit something to get you outside and in the fresh air. i dont leave the house much so ive tried a few things eg. fishing . mtbiking not my thing but im hopeing this works. :/

The way I see it, we detectorists are actually doing a lot of good for the environment by locating buried rubbish and ring-pulls, and digging them up and disposing of them thoughtfully, so it's a win-win either way, and that makes me feel good.
