Helllo,
Saying hello from the great state of raining all the time Oregon, great info on this site, wither it's in Australia or the US ,hopefully by next year i will be able to make it down under for a trip out metal detecting, I hope a year of planning and learning from you guys and ladies will be enough. looking to spend my time in the bush and not at some tourist spot, i have already seen some post were you can detect on some land for a fee, i'm a relist when it it comes to finding gold, if i find some cool, but if i don't then that's just mining and i had a chance to meet some great people and see a awesome place. So again, thanks for adding me to the website and i hope to learn a lot from you guys.

What kind of experience have you had with prospecting so far ?

My experience , i started in the mid 80s with a Whites detector, watching a tv show with a guy named "Buzzard" he was on the GPA show, in the 90s, i bought a 4 inch dredge and started dredging in northern California, well that turned into a couple of more bigger dredges and high bankers and gold wheels and a yard full of gear, after that i moved to Oregon, in Oregon i was still dredging and started getting in to mine exploring, a little later i opened a metal detector store, it was located in the back of my wife's pet store, she gave me one room to use, well the pet store took off more than the metal detector part, so i closed it and focused on the pets, Now we do more rock hounding and detecting than dredging, Here in Oregon they have closed most of the water ways to dredging for salmon habitat.

On the west side of the state is were you see more of the dredging working more of the rivers, we do have a place called Gold Beach, were you can mine on the beach and get a little gold, but not worth it, the south west of the state is the bigger gold known area, such as Grants Pass and Medford area, the Rogue River is the major river where people dredge but is closed now for Salmon habitat, the east side of the state is more high desert part of the state, not to much gold out that way, the middle of the state has a place called Sumpter, it is know for gold, they have a bucket dredge their that you can tour, pretty cool.

Welcome ON, with that sort of a historic resume, methinks that you will also be able to be of assistance to many on this forum, so don't hesitate to contribute, as sharing is what forums are all about. One things that you won't be asked for assistance in is dredging, as it has been completely banned in Oz for many years. Lots of historic dredged places, that are regularly targeted by our prospectors, but dredging itself is strictly a no/no nowadays.
