Hi all
Andrew here, absolute beginner, although always been interested in fossicking and history. I have absolutely no gear at the moment, but I do have a good friend who is going to loan me his detector to try, not sure what model other than a minelab and supposedly a good one. I live in Cockatoo, Vic and back onto Cockatoo Creek, which although not a huge gold bearing area it was at one stage mined and the forest around my area does have exposed shafts in it. I want to run the detector over my block as a starting point not for gold, although it is here, have found it in my ducks water on many occasions, their beaks are like sieves. The reason I want to run it over the block is the original house on the block was lost in Ash Wednesday and every time in dig on my block something is unearthed, be it coins, bottles etc, I know I will no doubt find lots of rubbish but hey that's part of the fun. My daughters are also interested in fossicking, one loves her fossils so will be a good bonding session, hopefully in the future I can convince the wife to let me buy my own detector. Great site by the way, keep up the good work.

G'day Andrew,

Welcome to the site. I grew up in the cockatoo region. I went to cockatoo primary school 1984/85 grade 5/6. Played football at emerald jnrs under 7s right through to under 15s.

Great area, lots of great memories growing up down that way.

Lambi

Hi Andrew, you could tell your wife that you can get her some great jewellery if only you had a detector.(women love jewellery)
