Hello there down under

My name is Claire and I am a metal detectorist from the rainy UK. I am a member of NCMD and FID in the uk and also a member of a local Durham group of metal detectorists.

I am currently writing a book on metal detecting primarily covering how to find decent sites to detect and it also a handbook with details or rules and regulations, codes of conduct as well as permissions and a huge load of internet resources.
I was wondering if you guys could give me any low down on the differences of detecting in Australia both where and what to detect and law wise. The USA is a legal minefield as each state is different!

I have been unable to find a lot about Australia but per chance happened to come by this forum.
Do you have any formal organizations or bodies that you join down there or is it a free for all as it appears to be in USA. We have very strict and defined laws, codes of practice and regulation of find here in the Uk.
:)
Any thought, tips and advice would be most welcome.

God Bless

Love Claire :D

Welcome to the forum good to have someone from the uk we have a few organisations and various laws governing our hobby
PMAV is one organisation we have various forums
Laws from heritage australia etc
Let me know specifics in pm or email and ill try and help

Thanks for replying to my post I appreciate it. I could not work out how to pm you. I have found several good reference sites about laws and, heritage and archaeology. The Prospectors & Miners Assoc Victoria is one site I can reference for my book. Are there any similar associations in any other parts of Australia? Or is it like America where it differ from state to state?

Thanks for you help.

God Bless. Claire

Hi Claire and welcome to the forum,
I was over your way a few months back. cruised around Scotland and the yorkshire Dales. Great area. No detecting just the tourist type stuff.
Each state is different with their laws. South Australia sucks because anything found, mineral or gem remains the property of the crown and is not to be sold for profit.
There is a section in the forum that will help you find so info https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=67 . hope that helps.
You can't send private messages until you have made 10 posts.

Thanks for that. I will include that link in the book as a reference point. I', glad you enjoyed your time in England. It was a shame you could not do any detecting as there is lots of good finds to be found in the places you visited.

Take care, keep hunting & God Bless. Claire
