hi all heres my latest auger idea for sampling deep and shallow leads and general soil

gota make a plunger and a few other minor things but I reckon I could make them and sell them cheaper than bunnings hand held ones and half the price maybe but for now im just having fun drilling 1.3 meters deep in my own back yard

Different ... how are you getting the teeth into the pvc ? How do they go when they hit rock ?

Dude it will need to be phenominally tough to get down in a lot of ground types, I had one made up and it was built like a tank but it really met its match on compacted clay and stones, as in ya need a day to get down 1.3m, I found it was easier to dig a bloody hole of that depth with pick and shovel.
Not to be a wet blanket ey, hope it doesn't come across like that.

yeah I get ya point spike but need to look at core drills for solid rock and see if I can make something similar as I have found the pvc wont last long at all metal when it hits rocks on the way down gets clogged or jammed or just bends the teeth so back to the drawing board for me

No harm in a bit of fun' last time I made a hole in the backyard it turned into a weekend project replacing the mains to the back sprinkler system and it still leaks!!

Mate love your initiative, go around to some engineering joints and see if they have some old carbide tips off a lathe or mill or some High Speed Steel you can grab of them, bronze these to the outside of some steel pipe, leaving a gap between each one, then get your grinder and grind the gaps out between each one, only grind out about 3-5mm, to much and it will jam, it will still block in clays, but you'll be able to retract for cleaning, give it a go, it'll work
