Hi everyone,
I'm completely new to fossicking and thought I should sign up so i can get lots of good advice from the veterans! I've been reading a few forum posts already and see that some newbies dont know what they are doing and destroy sites, so I really want to make sure that im doing everything by the books and making sure its a hobby that can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come. Definitely want to try and go get some sapphires soon, my fiance and I were thinking we might be able to collect our own gemstones for our wedding bands (not necessarily big ones, but even something small, collecting them ourselves would make it more special).

Looking forward to conversing with everyone!

Welcome to PA Gnome and good luck with your search for gems and the future wedding. :)

Hey Gnome, welcome.

I had the same plan back in June when I proposed, we stopped off in Inverell and camped at 7 Oaks to hunt some sapphires. Between me and the missus we came back with roughly 50 carats of Sapphires from just over a days worth of digging. The biggest we got was about 2.8 carats but still had a ball.

Unfortunately the soon to be mother in law wont allow me to put stones in the wedding band, it's her only request that I don't.

Wilko
