hi all im adam recently new to portland originally from ballarat surroundings. love my detecting , fishing and locating anything ancient like myself lol. running minelabs sdc2300 and gpx 5000. are there any groups in portland ?. cheers.

G'day mate. Just need an equinox and there should be plenty of ancient stuff in that area to unearth. PS if you find a 10 foot tinny, let me know. Someone nicked mine when I was on holidays there earlier this year!

Just sold my fishing shack down in Portland. Fished down there for 20 years. Don't know of any detecting clubs but we used to detect on the old market sites that are in the area and old known dwellings around the country side of which there are plenty. There lots of ring pulls about too!!!
After a blow you can get down to snapper point , maggoty bay and look for old shark teeth and other things that have got stirred up.
Interesting area, but time to move on for me and seek warmer climates. Good luck

awesome feed back thanks everyone. i also have a garrot carrot and a xterra705 so might hit up my back and front yards here then attempt to find those older sites. sharks teeth sounds interesting heard they sometimes find meg teeth as well. if anyone from here wants to get out for a swing or just a chat feel free to give me a yell.
