Hello all my name is stuart and i live in the north of adelaide. I have a partner and 5yr old daughter, im a mad keen fisho and am now a keen prospec...... i mean "fossicker"... I am completely new to detecting and am hooked but frustrated with all these conflicting opinions/reviews of the xterra 705 gold pack... i have personally found rusty staples a few inches down with a strong signal and cant see how gold will be different.. i haven't found anything yet but really is it just a piddlin contest of people saying mines bigger so yours is useless. I basically got laughed at by a fella with a 5000 the other day an told i was wasting my time and money... i understand gold is a sacred metal but has anyone actually had success with the average nugget (half pea) in s.a feilds like crawford or echunga? I was assured by miners den that this would do the job in mineralised grounds... Hope to hear some positive stories but im willing to hear it all.. Thanks in advance guys n gals

Welcome Stu

Bought the same kit but upgrade to a SDC before getting the chance to give it a whirl on the goldfields, I have used it extensively looking for relics and will pick up pea sized lead at 10" deep.

I would have no doubt that the 705 would pick up a half pea nugget at 6" and sub-gram nuggets near the surface. The real issue is finding the ground where one is sitting. A more expensive machine will increase your chances as will doing your research and understanding your machine. An idiot with a 5000 will struggle to find himself in a mirror.

Good luck out there.

Hi SA Stu
welcome to the forum and i hope you have fun
i have a 705 goldpack but still havent found any gold (still need to get to the GT), but have found lots of coins and a few relics with it so far, also found very small bits of lead and shot up to 8" deep so cant see why it wouldnt find gold, my only concern at the moment would be how it handles mineralised ground as the ground around here isnt.

anyway welcome to the hobby and best of luck :)
