Hello All,

Due to a very unfortunate injury I am definitely passing on my GPX5000 either by sale or trade. (Open to offers of any type of trades with similar value)
I did advertise it last November, but I thought I'd try and work through my injury.
Sad thing is I'm not recovering that well and just had another set back. I have had a full lower back spinal fusion and my last efforts detecting has created some new issues.

It is only 18months old and I purchased it from the prospectors patch in WA, from Jamie.

For Sale $6,000

GPX5000,
DD & Mono 11inch coils,
shaft covers,
machine cover,
comes in a secure pelican case,
Minelab pro-find,
External booster speaker and 2 power 2000 batteries from Docs detecting supply,
Garmin Etrex 10 gps

$6,000

All serial numbers will be supplied to serious enquiries and can be crossed referenced with minelab or the prospectors patch.
I am in the ACT and I can deliver to you or you can pick it up. Willing to meet in most locations.
This is genuine and a disappointing sale, but the injury really is restricting me from using the machine so it may as well go to someone who will use it.

Regards

Graham

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the message.
Sorry to hear about your fusion. I wish you a speedy recovery. Mine was L5/S1. Now I have a disc bulge and disc tear at L4/L5, unfortunately partly due to the fusion below putting pressure on the above disc.

It's a shit of a thing.

Who knows, I just might be playing football next year yet.......

G'day Graham,

Sorry to here about the back injury mate.

I have the same injury after my car was pushed under a council bus by another car hitting the front and rear of my car. My cars front end went under the bus and lifted it the bus up at the rear.

I decided not to go ahead with my surgery, I was told by the neurosurgeon I wouldn't be able to walk without it. Well twenty years later I am still proving them wrong.

I hope your recovery goes well for you too. It took me about a year to get to the point where I could walk and even run again.

I don't know if this will help but what I found was that the more I moved the better I was, it was when I sat around and did nothing that everything locked up on me. Just had to work through the pain. My L4/L5 are pressing on my motor nerve and to compensate for the injury the back bones around that area are developing bony spurs that are also digging into the motor nerve so every step is painful but worth it. Also when you get older the back injury makes you more susceptible to osteo so I take Glucosomine1500 to combat that, it does help. In terms of pain killers the only thing that works for me is Voltarin rapid 25's.

One thing to watch out for is at the site of the injury gases build up and the bone starts to corrode as a result. I have a large black spot where the bone of my vertebra has broken down now as a result of the gas. The gas is generated by the disc fluids running out and into the surrounding tissue. There's not much apart from surgery they can do about that. But I am holding off surgery as long as I can. My head also leans forward now it's just the body realigning itself to compensate for the back injury.

You can ask your doctor for a blocker it's a long needle (13cm) in the back where they inject steroids at the point of the injury, don't worry it's a relatively painless procedure done under local anaesthetic. It can last for about six to twelve months depending on the person and it will take the pain away straight away. It's a quick procedure and you are walking again in a couple of hours. I was told I could have as many of these as I needed but I have only done that twice so far. It doesn't fix the problem but it does relieve the pain and get you moving again.

The 5000 is a great unit and I am sure someone will take it off your hands soon.

All the best with the recovery and the sale. :D

Cheers,

Grant

Hello Grant,

Mate you make it all sound so wonderful, Lol.

I am still pretty young and I refuse pain killers and I agree with the 'more you move the better you are'. I have pretty good coverage too being in defence. Unfortunately for me my L5/S1 vertebra were so bad I couldn't escape the fusion. (Impact injury into my spine)

I got 3 different opinions before having surgery and they all said the same thing. The disc above is not to impressed with the surgery though and is paying out on me now. I think it's just going out in sympathy.

I'm a big fan of a regular massage now, just to settle the muscles. Being in canberra I've been told to stop going to my Aussie therapist and go to the Asian ones here, apparently they're really good with relief but my wife said 'don't you dare'
I'm still a little confused by it all (the massage). I don't understand why my missus got so heated, plus I think my Aussie guy is pretty good.

Sorry to hear about your back, I never really had an injury until my back and I can now sympathise with those injured too.

Sorry to hear about the other disc acting up I know how painful that is. Might want to ask about the blocker.

I had three months of Physio and deep tissue massage in order to be able to walk again and I avoided chiropractors like the plague.

Yeah my brother is the same different back injury but same net effect, he went to a chiropractor in Brisbane and on his way back to Cunnamulla his left side became paralysed as a result of the Chiro. He had to shift gears with his right hand and use his other leg for the pedals until he could get to a town.

I remember years later he was walking about with a cane for about a month after his back played up again, he went to an Asian massage place in the local shopping centre while my wife and I had a coffee and he came back walking fine without the walking stick.

I was the same never had an injury until then. I used to weigh 65 to 70kg for years before the accident exercising regularly, was a B Grade Tennis player and tried out for the Australian team but then after the accident I couldn't exercise or play tennis and I ballooned to 126kg. I would try but just couldn't at the tine. I'm still struggling to get the weight off. I've dropped about 26kg of it so far and kept it off, just another 20kg to go.

All the best. :D
