Hi chuky boy, I know when I was using my sadie, I had it in fine gold but pushed the rx up a bit and I picked up a tiny shoe tac at about 10" everything else was fp, I also got a couple of pieces of small bird shot at about 8" I haven't used the deep setting with it though, hope this helps

I ran the rx up at about 16 and had the stabiliser set at 2 points below that with coil right on the ground

In general/fine gold using a 14"x7" NF Advantage I got some very small targets at good depth. No sub grammers at a foot or deeper though. Mostly they were within 6" of the surface but that's not to say others haven't detected them down deeper.
Don't know that "deep" would give you the sensitivity for sub gram gold at that depth (1ft). It's for large objects at max depth by design. Can't say I ever thought to try it though, with a small coil, & would be interested to hear if anyone has with success on sub gram gold at any depth.
I reckon you'd be better off in general & if the ground is fairly high in mineralisation try hi-mineral in the custom menu? I never used it to be honest but it is supposed to help stabilise the machine but still retain sensitivity to small & deep gold?

Just thought I would clear up some of the info given to possibly save some confusion, deep, general and hi-mineral are just names and are not settings. Deep and general on the front switch do have factory presets but those presets can be changed to whatever you want, you could put a sticker over "deep" that says "noisy" and then go into the menu and crank everything to max. Hi-mineral is just a pre defined name that you can use to label your settings while having the custom switch selected.

I forgot to mention I have got a 4500. jafnob I have trouble getting my Rx above 11 or 12 most places I go. Machine starts to worble too much. I usually run rx around 9 or 10 and stabiliser around 8 or 9. If I crank up the Rx does this give more depth and sensitivity? Mbasko I went over a huge bit of junk with my 12x7 NF in deep and it nearly blew my machine up it was sound loud. Rooster booster set half way.

The 5000 has a gain range from 1-20 where the 4500 is 1-15. I don't think the 5000 has more gain it just has more increments in the range so 7 on a 4500 would be equivalent to maybe 10 on a 5000

Yes they are search modes that each have a group of preset & customisable settings. The custom search modes have presets too until you change them. If you don't change them & decide to use/try one of the modes you'll get a preset mode of settings that are set to relate to one of the 4 preset names. You can customise them & rename them to suit also to one of the other listed names.
Don't worry about changing/trying different settings in them especially deep or general. You can always do a reset to FP (Factory Preset) which will return the deep & general search modes to what they were originally preset to. If you've changed or set up your own search mode in one or all of the 4 custom modes these won't change back on a reset to FP so you won't lose a mode that you like or prefer etc. The custom modes remain as per any changes you make.

True, I guess all that that needed to be said was "assuming factory preset". The more info the better, :) I know when I started all these names were very confusing especially having the ability to change a named setting to something completely irrelevant to that name. Being able to name setting to whatever you want would have been helpful.
