Hi everybody,

Been toying with the idea for a few months of going detecting and got onto a GP3000 which I assume is not flash as detectors go but it was the most the pocket would stand..

After months of reading forums I settled on getting a Li-ion battery power setup from "Doc" because the gel batt weight may make me get too old too fast and the years fly along as it is. Light and easy does it.

Strictly speaking I'm not new to detecting. The only detector I used to have (1979-1984) was a Garrett deepseeker which probably accounts for a partial deafness. Sure I had some finds with it but I started to get involved in a lot of other things as tho the good times would never end. But yes they did end!! Soooo,, after laying low for 20-30 years the bug is getting to me and thus the GP3000. Been bush here in sunshine state with the GP on only one occasion for about 5 hours. The small and very small junk I detected convinced me that there were possibilities for finding a bit of the real McCoy with a PI machine. Just gotta get the setup right to suit me.

As a regular reader of GG&T I realise the GP is not a GPX. That is why I appeal for user info as regards the GP3000's foibles (if any) use of DD or Mono's, round or elliptic, modify or not modify, best settings with what coil in what ground,,maybe that's a bit of a tall order but any info would be gladly received.

Been browsing a number of forums but this one impresses me most, and am looking forward to a long and happy association....

Welcome 'noyungan' I hope you enjoy this site. There's alot of experience and great people here if you need any help or advice with detecting. Enjoy!

Thanks scoopa for the encouragement ,, I need lots after all the dry creeks I've up. Positive some info will be pouring in anytime now. Holidays are imminent, time then to put advice into practice. ...Cheers,, noyungan.

Welcome to the forum noyungan. Great to see the rekindled enthusiasm for detecting and hope the forum can help with any advice you seek.

Technology has come a long way since the Garrett Deepseeker and much advice can be gained from the members on the new machines and available coils. Hope you find the threads a pleasant read and look forward to sharing the adventure.

Cheers Wal.

Lets hope some decent advice follows...i'm all ears as would be good to know if its a good gold machine. Welcome Noyungan

Hi all,,

Its a comfort to the soul to receive words of encouragement.. I'm finding out the truth of Wal's comment ,"technology has come a long way since the "deepseeker". Tho at the time we all swore by them (and at them),and there is a plethora of tectors now available but I think ML has the game sewn up... pity the cost!! Then there are the coils!! Each coil claims privilege in particular situations and used with certain detectors. Its all mind blowing. DD, mono,, round,, eliptic,, litz wire and a host of other features..

It would be great to have comments from those who have used the 3000 in the field and it would be much appreciated to be guided thru the minefield of detectoring.. Maybe its me,, but I don't believe one grabs any machine with just any coil and power setup and hopes to be successful, what do you think??? Cheers fellers...Carl (noyungan)

Like fishing, different gear for different situations, will catch different fish. The right bait, the right area, right size hook, right size line will jag your target species. No "one size fits all" set up, wish it weren't true!

I've been fishing and had line broken by big finny-- gold detecting is like fishing, need lotsa patience... Unlike fishing a big nuggy wont break the tector!!

Hi Peter,

Where is Hunter Hill?? Or is that a psuedanym(?) for your hunting gold?? I'm at Redbank (Q) no gold here which will mean lotsa travel, and lovin it, especially the bush, even better if I snag a bit once I've get the tector sorted.

Cheers... Carl.
