Hello for all gold seekers I am from Poland. Me and my friend will be arriving Australia next month. We will buy a car and travel across the Australia. On the way, we want to seek for gold using the metal detector, model: Garrett ace 250. We have a few questions to you:

1. Is this a good metal detector for gold seeking? Anybody found gold with it's help?
2. Is there any map or app of gold fields in Australia?
3. What kind of landform results to be the most abundant in gold?
4. Is there a need to report to local authorities our seeking plan? \
5. What to watch out for when seeking for a gold? What are the most common risks and hazards to avoid?

Thanks for your advices!

Hi Driz, How long will your trip be? I would start by reading a lot of topics on this forum as your questions have been answered many times over. Hopefully some members will point you in the right direction. Good luck with your gold search!

Most importantly you MUST buy a miners right for each state or territory you prospect in. A miners right can be purchased online for $17 AU

Dangers include:

Snakes, leeches, spiders, deep dangerous mine shafts, unstable ground, misdirection and exaustion ( lost ), lack of bush knowledge and skill ( are you eexperienced campers? ), falling trees, dropbears..

The worst 8)

No, it isn't - all of the Garrett Ace series detectors are just basic coin/relic detectors for parks and beaches (dry sand only). They are completely unsuitable for gold prospecting in Australia and it would be a miracle if you ever found gold here with one. The easily findable gold is too small for such detectors and mostly occurs in highly mineralised ground where these detectors will work very badly if at all. You would do better to hire suitable detectors in each state you visit - this isn't usually very expensive.

Yeah, And the bloody Yowies can give you a bit of a tune up at times too. 8)
Not the best thing to come across in the middle of the night in the bush having a leak.
Pucker factor goes to zero real quick.

Ahhhh come on guys, i like a joke as much as the next guy, but the OP is not aware of what's going on here, so how about we give him a break and get seriously back on topic to help the guy out?

We have a thread for jokes....and we should be Ambassadors when o/seas members show an interest of our hobby here...

Wait until he arrives before awakening them to our folklore... ;)

Drizzt...you did get "some" good info... the detector is not recognized here as a "nugget hunter" unit....better to aim higher with your spend, or as others have said, hire when you get to a local field.

P.S.....sorry for the behavior of some of my countrymen....but it's all in good fun. You'll understand better once you get here. ;)

The jokes on you Gypsy.

If he can post here, he has an internet connection and the Polish are quite smart when it comes to worldly matters!

They know how to research online for what they need, dont worry about that. ;)

Drizzt.....If you decide to come to Victoria mate, slip me a PM and we shall venture out into the Gold country dude on one condition!

You bring a couple bottles of that duty free Polish Vodka with ya OK!

Good travels mate and welcome to PA.

Wellll... be that as may be Meta, but we don't know that for certain in this instance (your assertion is only presumption at best).... and even SunnyBoy had to pose the question to begin with....and with a name like that i'm inclined to think he (SunnyBoy) is an Aussie (and yeah, i stand to be corrected if wrong) so i stand by my comments.

As you yourself noted.... He came here (as his 1ST POST) as part of his "research" to get answers and was met with derision.....not a good look in my opinion, but you may hold comedy above assistance for all i know...

I wouldn't dare to presume what anyone may or may not know, however, regardless of that....a member of this forum has posed a query about visiting here and approx 70% of the replies were OT......put yourself in the OT's shoes and see if you find much of this thread helpful?

I also wasn't suggesting we don't have some fun, just to wait till he gets here before laying all that on him....besides it's more effective when ya can see their faces as you tell them lol

All i was hoping to achieve was to get back on topic and offer an answer to the OP's query....shame on me i guess for trying. :8

Regards
Gypsy

Hehe, you mean well Gypsy I know.....dont take life so seriously dude!

And I offered to help the guy out as long as he brings the Vodka :p

Now a personal invite from Meta is what I call first class forum help....lol

;)

Ok Meta ....truce, but hey, now ya asking the OP to break the law!!!

He's only allowed to bring in 1x bottle or 1lt (or is it reduced now to 750ml?).... :/

;)

Oh yeah..i am a serious guy and DO need to lighten up so thanks for bringing that back to my attention...(true story). :p
