Went to Adelaide today for some business and stopped at a rest stop just outside of Truro about 500m actually. Got out to stretch my legs, wandered around and was looking at the base of the trees to see what rocks were brought up, and to my surprise i found mineralised quartz mixed with slate. Being at a rest stop, you could imagine the junk that`s around there, so would drive the detector nuts, i`m pretty sure gold was never found in this general area, could the old timers missed it, or was the quartz associated with the copper i think they mined in that area?
I suppose gold is not always were quartz is, but you just never know, there could be a monster nugget lurking there right under many 1000`s of people`s noses that would of rested there?
What do ya reckon, give it a crack?

No public land around Truro, so you would need land owner permission. That's assuming there is anything there.

This area of public land is only a few 100sq metres ,like i said the junk would drive you nuts so i dont think it would be worth while pursuing. S.A sucks when it comes to accessible gold bearing land, those dipshites did`nt have the foresight to realise that one day in the future there would be metal detectors. The greater adelaide hills is a large area, it`s such a shame it`s all private, there must be tons of detectable gold just waiting to be found?, just another one of those unfair things in this world we have to contend with!!

Yeah it is a disappointment mate and you're right there's tonnes of detectable gold. More than likely detectors would reveal gold in places the old timers hadn't looked or perhaps probed but without success. The area around Teetulpa is very interesting too as much of the surrounding land out that way geologically matches the teetulpa goldfield. Wouldn't be surprised if that alluvial field was very widespread. It's a bit embarrassing to live in a state with so much gold potential only to have to drive interstate to explore for gold.

Not to hijack the thread but I heard something about Jupiter Creek to reopen for mining? Does this mean it's going the way of the bird in hand mine and we'll lose one of our few fossicking areas in the near future?

If that`s the case nuggetino, i guess we`ll have no choice but to detect in every other state but south oz, considering were not allowed to sell south oz gold anyway , i guess the decision is`nt all that hard dont ya reckon?
In regards to not selling it, i spose it would`nt matter if there was a ***** load of land available, the govt`s head is completely screwed up in this respect, dig it up , but no you cant sell it, WTF?

Nuggetino, i know I'm a one post wonder but i can answer your question and Jupiter Creek (fossicking area) will not end up re-opening for mining. Terramin have the tenement and have no intentions of exploring it for mining. The area is so wooded with natives and historical significance SA government would never allow surface mining of any kind. But the government would love a mining company to spend millions on exploration drilling so they know "potential future what our state is worth" but would never be allowed to mine. All drilling core is owned by the SA Government just like the nuggets we detect.

It is so painful to open a mine here in SA so Jupiter will be safe for at least another 100 years.
