For the smaller nugget sizes I know they read quite low on a single id machine like fisher, as garret. However a larger nugget (the ones we dream of finding , fist size) what could that possibly read at ? Smaller nugget 18-27 but a fist size nugget would that read a lot higher say 70+? I've always wondered and done a lot of research but can only find smaller nugget examples which read quite low . I want to know what larger nuggets would ID at. I once had some pure gold coins that ID in the 90's would it be the same for a larger nugget ?

Yeah, agree with Scott, gotta really dig em all. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have been part of some great testing involving some decent nuggets and specimens. The results on all detectors be it VLF, MPS or Pulse were eye opening. Saw a Minelab PI give a negative for a 40 oz clean nugget as well as an ironstone specie with several oz,s in it at around 10 inches. A VLF reject a good clean nugget of 3 oz just 6 inches deep in highly mineralised ground, a TDI completely reject 2 ounces at just 2 inches deep in bad but typical Central Vic ground. That's not to rubbish the detectors as such but to give an example of how bad ground screws up the best efforts to id gold in heavy, yet usually typical, scenarios. From what iv seen its a 50 50 result.
