Just been watching 10 episodes of Series 2 (Christmas Eve afternoon TV in the UK)

Seems to me that it is 80% set up and not for real.

Episodes 6 spends $100k on backhoe and gets 3kg of gold in a week!!!!!!!!

The show is fully scripted, just like every other reality TV show. The scenarios are not real but are written to simulate typical life for a gold hunter.
