I am busily getting prepared for a trip to Kal in the coming months.
Now, i wanted to ask for help please.

First up an easy one, i have a length of chain i am going to take to do some chaining on the flats.
What length do i cut it to, what length are other people using. I have a larger shackle to add weight on the end if needed.

Secondly, i was thinking of trying out normal ear bud type headphones to remove the bulky Koss headphones in the heat.
Has any GPX users tried this with success? ?. I already have the adaptor from 1/4" down.
:Y:

Hey lord no idea about chains but when it's hot I often use earbuds . No idea what type I use as I stole em off the kids. Only problem I've found with them is if its a windy day the ones I was using were a bit noisy unless ya really got them in good into your ears but then they hurt after a while . Might pay to try out a few different types. Sound wise they were just as good as the headphones but a lot cooler with a big hat on.

The ear buds are good but the adapter will give you grief, get someone who knows what they are doing to cut off the small plug and solder on a new 6" plug. Depends on how heavy the chain is but around a metre I find works well.
Have a great trip, and stay safe that country will bite you if you become complacent.
Jim. :Y: :)

With the chain as long as it marks the ground I have used a spanner on a cord done the job ear buds l I do not like them some people do , have a look at Koss ksc75 they just sit over your ears regards john :)

Been using Havi B3 Pro earbuds for a couple of summers now . Dual driver 45 Ohm excellent clarity on small gold signals . Not cheap but good .

Righto, thanks guys.
My chain length is around 4 to 5 metres so will cut that back tonight to about 4 foot i guess.

As for my headphone situation would the tech savvy let me know if this would work...
If i bought some earbuds, just looking at these for exapmle

And if i bought a bluetooth transmitter, i was looking at this.

Would i be able to plug the transmitter into my 4500 battery, using an adaptor or adaptor-cord for the 1/4 to 1/8 plugs. And use my phone (S5) as the bluetooth receiver in my pocket with the headphones plugged in.

Sorry, electrical is not my feild of expertise, i am more mechanical minded.

To get the best out of the Avantree transmitter you would need your receiving device to have the aptx low latency codec - I doubt mobile phones would have it.
You'd be better off with a transmitter & receiver set like these (or x 2 of the ones you pictured above):
http://www.avantree.com/category-bl...ransmitter-and-receiver-avantree-lock-db.html
Or something like the Deteknix wireless system:
http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/deteknix-wirefree-kit/

I think having your phone active with Bluetooth will interfere with your detector too much to consider using your phone. Better off with a standalone system IMO.

I'm a big fan of the earbud style of headphones for both the SDC and the 4500.

I have used good quality over ear style headphones, but what I hear through the buds is much clearer and more detailed.

I don't use the Bluetooth style, and the standard type can be a pain at times, but for me, the improved detail and friendly price can't be beat.

When using them with the 4500, my main volume is around 2 or 3 and that is still quite loud. With the over ear I'm at 12+ with less detail.

Thanks to everyone for your input :Y:

So i have spent the last coupole of days researching every bluetooth RX on the net I could get posted to me.

The more i looked into it, the more options i would have liked it to do.... :D

I really like the Minelab Pro Sonic ability to also be a speaker once the headphones are unplugged.

I am leaning towards the pro sonic but obviously this is a large cost,
does anyone know a bluetooth RX that is good quality with a low latency, and have the ability to act as a speaker once the headphones are unplugged.... oh and have a good battery life haha

Or should i just bite the bullet and go the Sonic

Outside of the Minelab Pro Sonic or making your own if handy with a soldering iron the only way I know to have a speaker as well is to still use a wireless tx/rx system but also have either a booster + speaker system like the B&Z booster http://outbackprospector.com.au/b-z-booster/ or a speaker with a built in booster/amp like these sold by vktek (vk8024 - Treasuremate V3):
http://www.vkteksolutions.com/
There are cheaper mini guitar amps that can work also but they seem to be a bit hit & miss.
Not sure now but when I was looking into all of this there wasn't anything in a speaker available that had acceptable low latency, amp/boosted, volume control, long battery life/rechargeable etc. which is what I wanted. There are plenty of Bluetooth type speakers around that claim low latency & good volume/sound but I haven't tried them.
Some things to consider with all of these other "options" is with more components you introduce more connections = more chance of failures. A lot of wireless gear information can be a bit iffy - you really need to buy some gear & test it out yourself to find what suits. Trust me this can get expensive.
If it were me I'd be seriously considering the Minelab Pro Sonic as when you add up other costs like wireless tx/rx system, booster/speaker, various adapters/connection cables etc. etc. then throw in trial & error all of a sudden they don't seem so expensive. In saying that I've yet to use one but have heard good reports - maybe someone currently using one can weigh in with some direct info on latency, speaker volume etc?
Next best bet (if I already had or knew of a good low latency wireless system) would be the vktek speaker with built in amp to reduce connections. That's my opinion anyway.

Thanks for the informative response mbasko :Y:
Update i have ordered the Havi B3's, really sold on trying earbuds and these look the goods and come recommended.

Still debating the wireless options, now a mate has also mentioned the eq spirit to get rid of any tether to the 4500.

Pro sonic is looking like the compromise, anyone have reports on this unit??
PhaseTech, do you sell these mate?

We got the pro sonic when we bought the 2300 and I am very impressed withe the system. My wife uses the headphones and I run it through my hearing aids and both work brilliantly, and if we want to share we just unplug and play through the speaker and it works seamlessly. I could not ask for more
Jim :Y: :Y: :)

Thanks for the imput Jim :Y: :D
I have decided I am going with the pro sonic. Once i have it i will not be disappointed and it can stay with me between detectors going forward.

Have you made it home from your big trip Jim? Looking forward to seeing some photos, from memory you did well :Y:

Yes lord we have been home for 2 weeks and are madly planing for next year. It has been a huge learning curve as the gold is so different to vic. We finished with 108 grams and the highlight of the trip was a 20.5 gram on my 70th birthday, a great present. Aye. If you get the pro sonic mount the transceiver on your body side of the machine and wear the receiver on the machine side of your body as the signal will not go through you, I hope that's clear. We have not had time to sort out our photos yet but they are coming. Jim :Y: :Y:

There is another booster option now on the market. The SP01 made by SteelPhase and available from Phase Technical. Great unit with volume and different filters and settings. I am using with my SDC 2300 and it makes a huge difference.

Hey Lord,

I bought two sets of the Pro Sonics. One for the wife & the SDC & one for myself with the 4500 & I think it has been the best money I've spent.

Rob.

I got the Deteknix gear from Nenad. I have 1 transmitter and the wireless headphones with the inbuilt receiver, both USB rechargeable for the SDC 2300. I also wanted a speaker option, so I bought a Tx/Rx Deteknix, also from Nenad. The picture shows the speaker plugged into the Rx module, which also has inbuilt volume control. However, I also made up a very short Mono patch lead, 1/4" socket/plug to connect my B&Z Booster if I want to use it. (not pictured)

(The wire free headphones were part of Nenad's Pro Kit as I got the 2300 from him)

The reason I got another Transmitter is that if I swapped out the speaker and headphones on the 1 Tx, I'd have to repair every time I did so. I figured I would soon get fed up of that. As they are Velcro fixed to the 2300, they are easily swapped over. It also gives me the option of having a backup in the event of flat batteries and my 5000 corded headphones will plug into the speaker Rx as well.
