So I was pondering (I do that sometimes) about buying a highbanker. So started researching a bit on price etc, when the gold cube caught my eye. Looks easy to clean up. Watched a vid on youtube. Ok, but what are they really like? Are they all they're cracked up to be? I read in earlier posts that it's a matter of preference as to if you like a highbanker vs sluice. Thinking I'll stick to the wet for now, though I see a dry blower for $750. So does anybody have a gold cube or ever used one? Thanks.

Hi Chewy,

Since your local mate if you want to drop me a PM and we can organise for you to come and have a look at my Highbanker and Dry blower. We are coming in to the wet time of the year so a Highbanker would be the way to go. It depends on the intensity of your prospecting I reckon, if you like the relaxed laid back way then a sluice would be the go but if your out there trying to get maximum results then the Highbanker would be the best option.

I still don't have a pump for my Highbanker I built 12 months ago but I made mine so I can take the hopper off and use it as a sluice....the best of both worlds. Having said that, as it is so dry over western Vic (Ararat) for alot of the year I have used my Dry blower more.

Cheers

Thanks MJB. Was nice to meet you. Very interesting and informative chat to. Looking forward to catching up again.

No problem Chewy, was good to meet up and try and help you out a bit even though there are others out there that know a tonne more than me. Hope your search for a highbanker goes well and I look forward to heading out with you soon for a good dig

There is a screen option or a trommel available that can be fitted to the gold cube. It is meant to be able to handle material being shoveled straight in if you use one of those options, but I haven't been able to find a lot of information about how well they work. One big bonus to a lot of highbankers is that they may catch gems if they are in the area, the gold cube only does gold. Bonus for the goldcube would be a very quick cleanup vs a highbanker and pretty easy to see if your on the gold by just checking the first tray. Sorry I can't really comment from experience on this, but there are certainly optional extras to make a goldcube run a lot more material without classifying it first, still I suspect a highbanker would be the better option in most areas.
