I've gotten a 3 month contract in Cairns so I was thinking of driving up there over a couple of days, what are the road conditions like between Brisbane and Cairns after Cyclone Ita?
Gedday and welcome (soon) to our Fair Far North gcause, .. All good mate roads from the south all open as of yesterday morning, but expect thing s to get a little slow between Ingham and Cardwell .. She's a bit pot holed and trash covered in parts, but should be all cleaned up in the next day or so .. business as usual .. Let us know when you get in Mate.
The roads are all good bar the few roadworks that slow you down.
But it does give you a chance to get out for a few minutes to stretch the legs.
I just drove back home to Cairns from Mackay last night.
There area few pot holes to watch.
Thanks fellows. Reckon the troopy should be able to handle a few potholes. I should have my weekends off so can't wait to get out into the Goldfields around Cairns and catch up with a few of you.
Been doing some research and apparently Cairns was first established as a port to serve the goldfields. A lot of towns in Quuensland seem to owe their existence to the goldfields, well at least the ones I have been researching
Made it up to Cairns ok, left Friday morning but only got to Bundaberg due to the Easter traffic, it was a carpark all the way up from Brisbane to Maroochydore where it eventually cleared. Saturday I made it to Mackay and Sunday I made it through to Cairns.
Didn't have much time for sightseeing on the way up as I was under the clock to get here for Tuesday but I did get a couple of snaps for you all as I passed the Gympie Gold Museum on the way up here is the old mine shaft next to the museum:
