Thanks everybody for the welcome!

@RM Outback
I prospect for just about anything of value. I'm not far from several old gold mines that are now within Uwharrie National Forest and open to panning and sluicing. Just no motorized equipment. Metal detecting was outlawed a couple years back but they don't appear to be enforcing it. ( I haven't been caught yet) Dredging is allowed in
certain states as long as it's private property and have permission.
As far as equipment , I have a White's Surf Pro that I built and just finishing up a SD2000. Various sluices ,pans, suckers and crevice devices . My most used tool is a #2 shovel.

Are private ownership of guns legal in AU? Just curious. They are here but the snowflakes are desperately trying to change that.

@Jaros
Thanks!

Afirearms licenseis alicenseor permit issued by a government authority (typically by thepolice) of a jurisdiction, that allows the licensee to buy, own, possess, or carry afirearm, often subject to a number of conditions or restrictions, especially with regard to storage requirements or the completion of a firearms safety course, as well as background checks, etc. Firearms licenses are not required in all jurisdictions.

The permit or license scope varies according to what firearm(s) or activity(s) it allows the holder to legally do with the firearm. Some jurisdictions may require a firearm license to own a firearm, to engage in hunting, target shooting or collecting, or to carry a concealed firearm, or operate a business (such as being a gun dealer or a gunsmith). Some jurisdictions may require separate licenses for rifles, shotguns or handguns.

The requirement to have a firearm license, is usually in addition to a requirement forfirearm registration. For example, in Australia, firearms must be registered by serial number to the owner, who holds a firearm licence.
