Just like to say g'day to everyone. I'm just getting into the whole prospecting scene. Have been a bowhunter for over 20 years and thought I wouldn't mind hunting something a little bit different, it doesn't matter weather its relics or gold. I'm doing as much research as possible to make sure I get the right detector for me and the conditions i'll be detecting in.

Welcome to the forum Rudy.
What part of this great country are you from?

Regards

Richard

I'm from a little town on the edge of the Grampians called Pomonal about 20 kms from Stawell where I grew up.

Welcome Rudy...good luck on your hunt!

I grew up in Stawell and had a mate that lived in Pomonal.
We used to flog around the paddocks in the old paddock bombs...was great fun and taught me a lot about driving.

You may know the family. Their surname is Mackley.

Anyway, I get back to Stawell every now and then, my parents still live there.

So most of my search for gold will probably be based around this area.
The ironbark's is a nature reserve and off limits for prospectors, and there doesn't seem to be any maps of the area.
You can pick up an Ararat gold fields map for about $15, this comes as far west to around Great Western and also includes Moyston. Prospecting is also permitted in the Ararat national park, so that would be a good area to do more research on.

Hopefully you find some of this info useful and being new to this game too , maybe we can learn a bit off each other.

Cheers, Ben

I know Sam Mackley, he's been doing the plumbing on the house we're building.
My real name is Neal, would be great to catch up.
I just got the name Rudy from ringing up a football radio show call Up country punt I was know as Rudy Zarsoff.

Nice...I know Sam (although not too well). I was friends with his older brother Isaac.

Nice to have you on the forum

G'day Rudy and welcome! It really is a very small world after your chat with Bingo. It's great to see. Good Luck

Welcome aboard Rudy, I thought for a sec my brother was reintroducing himself lol, anyway, good luck out there on the fields

Cheers, Tone

Thanks for the welcome, from my short stint on the forum it seems very friendly and helpful.
