Hi all

My name is Chris, I'm 30 and I live in the Southern Highlands NSW.

I do a lot of hiking, kayaking, fishing, hunting and 4x4 which most of the time puts me near gold bearing rivers and creeks, but I have only even been panning about a dozen times just for a bit of fun while I am in these areas.

Unfortunately, I have been bitten by the gold bug and panning for gold is something I would like to be better at and i am even considering buying a sluice to increase the excitement level and justify the aches and pains of panning all day, lol.

I will be seeking advice, hints, and tips on how to make it easier and more exciting, but for now just wanted to say hi and look forward to the chats. :)

Welcome to the forum Chris, By the sounds of your intro you've the great outdoors really sussed out. 4x4 ....+ kayak....+ hiking will get you to some pretty remote country. Sort of country I'd probably run into you. Hope the forum gives you some great tips on how to maximize your chances on the gold. Best of luck and by the sounds of it I'll more than likely meet you on the stream one day.

Cheers Wal, :)

Hi Chris , been there too , very tempting to carry a gold pan with me when i go bush walking.

panning might be a nice fast way to sample a few spots in your travels , and if you do find some flakes in the pan then setting up a sluice will allow you to process alot more material per hour and hopefully give you the return we all dream of.

search for WalnLiz's posts on their highbanker , plus their videos on youtube for alot of helpful information ( most people charge consultancy fees for sharing stuff like that ), you can still carry that sort of gear in your 4x4 , its not that heavy

If you want another resource there are maps of gold mine locations in one of nuggets posts that you can download and import into Google earth , then match them up with places you are familiar with.

good luck

Cheers guys

Checked out walnliz's YouTube videos, that was tops, learnt a few things already!!! Love the highbanker but thinking of something a bit smaller, that I can also strap to a kayak or back pack for a about 10-20 km.

I'll try to check out the gold map thread that nugget has posted.

Thanks again
Probably see ya out there!
