Hi all,

Just joined up to try and get some good knowledge of the area as we have only move to the Newcastle area.
We mainly go 4wd and camping but thought we mighT try a hand at some fossicking whilst we are out, why not hey!!!
It's more to keep the kids busy so we have got them a cheap pan each and just looking for some location or areas where we could find a speck for fun.
So any help would be great.

Gday and welcome to the forum ,... I'd watch some utubes on panning techniques with the young uns firstly, that way you will all know what to do when you get out there.
And invest in some Aerogaurd too.

Nundle is the closest place for gold from newcastle.

We have been to places where aero guard is the favourite drink of bugs.

I think nundle is your best bet. You could do a day trip at around 2.5hrs each way.
If you've never panned before search for PA fourm member digger tom he sells gold concentrate thats perfect for working on your technique at home.

the beaches and rocks around Newcastle have a lot of petrified wood in the sandstone (redish brown) and agates on the beaches... I heard a story of a guy that lived behind wicham park hotel finding lots geodes in his yard years ago....
