Hi all , just getting interested in looking for gem stones in my local areas, as a young fella my dad would take me looking for garnets out lowood way. We found a fair few back then but I lost interest being a kid 
Memories is what has me looking at stones every where i go, I find my self holding stones up to the sun in hope of finding garnets again. Recently started looking while i am kayaking local rivers and creeks. Sitting on gravel for lunch breaks i shuffle through the sandy gravel looking for shiny black rocks. Recently found a strange rock and asked my dad about it, he believes its Quartz I was thinking maybe topaz. So on the net i start searching images of both quartz and topaz rough and ended up here. Maybe someone can help ID this rock for us please.
