Here are a few bottles we've picked up this month along the way.... and I mean 'the LONG way'. Mr M calls them short-cuts.... but I shudder, freak out, panic and know they will be long-cuts often lasting days. The biggest question at these times is whether we will have enough food and water to sustain a famed Mr M 'short-cut". A while back we ended up somewhere unplanned at midnight in the pouring rain with just an apple each. To Mr M's credit, we do often find nice things when we eventually arrive, though, so it's all good in the 'long run'.
On a bright, sunny, blue sky note... here is my fave result from one of our shorter long-cuts this month. We ended up in a past township just a short distance from home... but it still took an adventurous few hours to arrive. :/ You know.... via a new track here, an overgrown track there..... track? Really?! Hmmmmm.....
I worked hard for a couple of very hot hours digging broken bottles down deep when I spied a hint of blue. 8) I had no idea if it was even complete but you have to hope for the best.
It was buried to the hilt and I was so excited as I saw more and more of it that I'm sure my heart skipped a beat. We have so rarely found a blue bottle... in one piece at least. And never a big one.
I was extremely nervous getting it out because the last blue bottle (although it was different) cracked after it was cleaned.
There it was - clean, dry and proudly displayed on a shelf - when two hours later..... CRACK!!!! 8.( We heard it from across the room.... so this time extra care was taken. Luckily, this lovely bottle managed to survive the whole cleaning process and the blue indigo colour is just stunning against the sunlight.
Our research indicates it is a C1900 Bristol Blue Apothecary bottle. It even has some label left on it although it is illegible. So it is very old, undamaged and beautiful... what more could you ask for from a dig? Happy, happy, happy. By the way, did I mention I was very happy!? :8
