roughly two hundred targets for three small nugglets , but I am very content and taught my self a few things  .

Surprisingly I come across very few bits of junk on the goldfields. Seven hours detecting south of Maryborough this week and digging 70 holes I found two bits of rolled up foil, very old and buried.Did they have chocolate bars in the 1860,s? After 40 hours detecting this year have still to find even a flake of gold, some sort of record? Heading off to SA to detect the beaches in OCT/NOV. and hopefully find a coin.

Bette than the 100:1 junk to gold ratio - pretty good going ;)

That didnt count the few holes i gave up on  as they started sounding like a length of railway line at 6 ft deep. Or the dozens of holes that became big juicy tree roots :8 or the chunks of flat steel ,cast and other heavies i thought better of carrying all day.
The 100:1 is a fair ratio but i wish it was on weight

I would be interested in what your detector is ? 70 holes for two bits of foil , are you getting hot rocks or false signals ? Do you loose the targets when you dig or what are you getting from the holes ?
Your not wearing steel caps by any chance ?

I am damn sore  , fit and loco :) . I roughly counted the scrapnel in the pics and worked out the hours and i thought the same , but when it takes me 3 months to get out for a swing i bust myself because it could be that long before i get the next chance.

To be fair it was a tuesday and a thursday and i spent wednesday loosening up.

Getting targets out of the hole , to one side with ya boot and into ya scoop first go saves loads of time :Y: .

In shallow areas i could be close to a target per minute , sometimes in shallow i mark 6 or 7 with my boot then come through with my pick and scoop.

My rush and not digging targets that overload the tecta will cost me a big nugget one day if it already hasnt , but i was in a small gold area where the oldtimers took 90% of the ground to the bottom. Clever old fellas didnt miss much.
