Four charged with stealing gold from live lease.

Todays Kalgoorlie Miner runs an article about the 4 men charged last month with stealing $50k of gold using metal detectors while lease holder was absent.
The area hasn't been identified for obvious reasons.
Goes to show if you detect without permission it could get very expensive?

And a lot of blokes feel hard done by if someone jumps on "their patch" & get a few nuggets.
Hopefully the leaseholder gets the gold back!

If I remember correctly, many years ago a detectorist claim jumped a lease in the NT, and in the process found a decent sized nugget. In the end they match the gold fingerprint of the nugget to the gold found in that particular area, though the Goverment kept the gold rather than hand it back to the lease owner. I wonder whether it will be the same scenario for the guys in WA.

Did the govt compensate the lease holder in any other way?
