We found a chunk similar to this at Mary Kathleen mine in Queensland. There were a few pieces lying by the back gate of my cousin's property that backs onto the mine. We took one into a rockhound in Mt Isa and he was thrilled with the find and showed us a piece that was cut and polished. He said it was Chalcopyrite and swapped us for a nice sample of beautiful gold Iron Pyrite crystals.

Was it found in or around old workings or on new ground? If it is Chalcopyrite it is an ore of copper, would indicate a lode or vein deposit nearby.

Usually a slate or shale i think. I have some very similar rock I've found before

Notice how it leeches into the quartz. I call your sample one of the indicators in some areas but you can also find it amongst large tailings piles as well

Just say one of my rocks fell off the bench and broke A piece of the side clean break dam it ...
If I put the small piece in a plastic bag and pop it in the freezer will that stop it from oxidising ?
Because the colour,s in the new break are freakin awesome
And have a quick look every now and then ( and say WOW ) put back in freezer
or will it make it worse ???
